Feeling bad for Hosh, but I really do think he was hurt by getting the Yokozuna promotion. He clearly has more mental and physical developing to do. He can be Yokozuna material someday, but the JSA did him dirty for their own short term gain.
I have hopes that he can mature into the role. I have no doubts about his skill. I hope someone gets the next yokozuna promotion quickly, to take some of the pressure off him.
I agree. He was always at the top, but since I've been watching (since January 2024), he'd only won once, in January 2025. I thought it was a bit rushed and worried that this might happen. He's good enough, but not dominant enough yet. I told my husband that when Terunofuji was healthy, he was virtually unbeatable. Not so with Hoshoryu... yet.
Rumor is he was hurt by Atamifuji cranking his arm on something.
As for belt slapping, I couldn’t tell you exactly who had the loudest but jeez those guys smack the shit out of those things. And then some of them are really gentle lol!

Onosato would be the likely choice, don't you think?

His loss to Atamifuji in the last basho was a painful one. Atamifuji wrenched him by the arm and threw him off the ring.
I need to go back and rewatch. That sounds brutal.
I have a link in the Day 10 newsletter I just sent out.
